What is it caused by?

Adults and children likewise can experience speech difficulties. Children can have articulation disorders as a result of the natural or disordered development of phonological processes or other causes. In the adult population, this is often caused by impaired functions of the oral-motor structures, usually contributed by an underlying medical/neurological diagnosis.

“Articulation disorders make it difficult for one to be well-understood and can contribute to a negative psycho-social impact on individuals, limiting their opportunities at careers and job interviews as well as their performance in presentations.

In the pediatric population, this needs to be addressed early as motor-learning for errors will be deeply embedded as the child grows. The longer it takes, the harder the correction process will be. ”
