Signs & Symptoms
A person may be experiencing dysarthria if he/she demonstrates any of the following signs or symptoms:
- sluggish jaw, lip and/or tongue movements
- speech sounds slurred and/or laborious
- mis-articulations are evident
- drooling or poor management of oral secretion

A person may be experiencing dyspraxia if he/she demonstrates any of the following signs or symptoms:
- discoordinated oral movements
-speech or any other oral activities appear laborious,
articulatory groping is present
- misarticulations are evident
-difficulty articulating words, particularly with words
involving more than one syllable
- difficulty repeating words after you
-inconsistent errors (e.g. says "bay" the first time, and
"mate" the second time for "may")

“Dysarthria and dyspraxia make it difficult for one to be understood. Persons with "slurred" speech are often misunderstood as being "slower". This has a potential negative impact on one's self-esteem. .”
